Photo booth hire across the UK

Party photo booth hire

Party photo booth hire is a bit of a cheat code for hosts. Put a booth in the corner and your guests entertain themselves for hours. We find booths across the UK for birthdays, proms, family dos and pretty much any celebration you can think of.

Every party's different, though. So rather than one big sales pitch, here's how a booth tends to fit the occasions we get asked about most.

18th and 21st birthdays

Younger crowds go for anything they can share. A 360 booth or a digital booth that sends photos to phones tends to get the most use. Prints still go down well, mind, and they end up on bedroom walls.

Think about props. A few silly hats are fine, but at an 18th they do have a habit of wandering off. Having an attendant helps.

Some hosts go for a template in the party colours, or with a baby photo of the birthday boy or girl on it. That always gets a laugh.

30th, 40th, 50th and 60th birthdays

At the bigger milestone birthdays, the guest list often runs from grandparents to toddlers. A classic enclosed booth or a magic mirror suits that mix, as there's nothing tricky to figure out. Lots of hosts put the birthday person's name and age on the print template.

Some families ask guests to stick a print in an album and write a message, a bit like a wedding guest book. It makes a lovely present to hand over at the end of the night.

Proms and school events

Prom is all about the photos. An open air booth with a big backdrop copes well with groups of friends who all want to be in the same shot, and there's always one group that wants to be in every shot.

Prom committees often like a template in the school colours with the year on it, which turns the prints into a proper leaving keepsake.

Schools should check whether the venue needs any paperwork, and agree with the supplier what happens to the photos afterwards, especially with under 18s in them.

Christenings, naming days and mitzvahs

At a christening or naming day, the booth is mostly for the grown-ups. Daytime events are often shorter, which can bring the price down, and a soft backdrop with gentler props suits the mood.

Bar and bat mitzvahs mix generations, so a booth that gets teenagers and grandparents posing together goes down a storm. If you'd like Hebrew on the template, ask and we'll check the partner can do it.

Getting the timing right

Don't open the booth the minute the doors open. Give people half an hour to arrive, grab a drink and say hello. Once the room's filled up, open it, and it'll stay busy.

If there's a buffet, place the booth somewhere guests pass on the way to it. And if there's a DJ, ask them to mention it. You'd be amazed how many guests won't go near a booth until someone tells them it's free to use.

If it's a surprise, tell us when you enquire. The partner can usually set up in a side room or while the guest of honour is out of the way, as long as the timing's agreed in advance.

Having a booth at home

Booths can go in a house or garden, as long as there's a flat area of about 2.5 metres square, a plug socket nearby and cover if it's outdoors. Check the van can park close and there's a clear route in, because nobody wants to carry kit through the flowerbeds.

Most parties book around three hours. Have a look at the price guide for typical costs, then get a quote.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What's the best booth for a mixed age party?

An enclosed booth or a magic mirror. Both are easy to use, and the attendant can help anyone who isn't sure what to do.

Can we pick the props?

You can usually ask for a theme, like 80s or Hollywood, and partners will do their best. Prop sets vary, so we'll check what's possible for your booking.

How long should we have the booth for?

Three hours suits most parties. Start it once most people have arrived and finish around the last hour, when guests start drifting home.

Is a booth safe with lots of kids around?

Yes, with sensible supervision. Partners usually tape cables down and the attendant keeps an eye on things. On a 360 platform, little ones should go on with an adult.
